Detective Charles (Chuck) Szatkowski (Shot-Cove-Ski) received a Professional Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He has a Master of Public Administration degree and a Certificate in Law Enforcement Management from the University of Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Arizona.

Chuck retired from the the Colorado Springs Police Department in January 2022 after 25 years. He served as a Master Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Neighborhood Resource Officer, Police Training officer, a Detective with the Registered Sex Offender Unit, and the Crimes Against At-Risk Adults Unit. He started working on elder abuse issues for the police department in 2005 and established the Crimes Against At-Risk Adults Unit in 2012. Chuck conducted over two hundred presentations at the local, state, and national level on identifying and investigating crimes against at-risk adults and building community collaboration.

Chuck served on the Human Rights Committee, Adult Protection Team, Colorado Older Drivers Coalition, the Pikes Peak Elder Abuse Coalition, the Long-Term Care Ethic Committee and is the past Chair of the Colorado Coalition for Elder Rights and Abuse Prevention. Chuck has received a Department Commendation Medal, 16 Commander’s Commendations, 6 written commendations, two ACE Awards, two American Eagle Awards, the Senior Resource Council’s Joe Henjum Senior Accolades Award in 2014, VFM Officer of the Year for 2016, the El Paso County Bar Associations’ 13th Annual Mikki Kraushaar Senior Services Award for 2017, The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Commendation Medal in 2021.

Chuck served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1995. He started his military career as a helicopter door gunner/aero scout in Vietnam and retired as the Deputy Chief of Police at the United States Air Force Academy.
